Tell us a little about yourself
I am 24 years old and am fortunate enough to live on the Downtown Mall. This is my second year in the Future Fund. I joined because I wanted to connect with members of the community who also had philanthropic ideals and expand my social network. I have really enjoyed being a part of such a committed and diverse group of people.
What brought you to Charlottesville?
I moved to Charlottesville for work after I graduated from college. I worked for a nonprofit organization in town to plan special events and fundraise, as well as manage the network of donors. I now work for a beverage distributor to plan and promote special events. I work with high volume accounts as well as work to open new accounts for the company. What I enjoy most about my job is that the majority of your work is developing relationships with the people you work with. I look for ways for both my company and the account to benefit from hosting a special event or bringing in a new product.
I really love the Charlottesville community and have found myself getting more ingrained in the culture. I have had a great time exploring the area, community organizations, and restaurants. I also enjoy exercise, you may see me running in the future as I have decided to run the Ten Miler!
Why did you decide to become a Future Fund Member?
When I moved to Charlottesville, I only knew a handful of people. I joined the Future Fund so I could meet new people and start connecting with the new community I was living in.
What is your favorite aspect of being a member?
I truly enjoy meeting new people and building relationships. It is especially fun in such a small town because you run into people all the time. I also think it is inspiring to have such a large group of young people showing commitment to furthering a cause and being engaged in the local community.
Favorite philanthropist or charity?
There are so many to choose from! Ultimately, I am inspired by anyone and any organization that takes the initiative to create a positive change in their world.
Three things you can't live without?
Local produce, Chapstick, and probably my iPhone
Favorite Local Hangout?
Again, there are so many to choose from... I really love living on the Downtown Mall... there is nothing like walking to the City Market on a Saturday morning and hearing the harmonica music from the man with the dreadlocks. Few things make me happier.
