Giving Opportunities

The CACF staff are always learning about interesting projects for which nonprofit organizations are seeking funding.

The list below, “Giving Opportunities,” is an attempt to make the broader public aware of these projects.  It is continually updated and has proven to be a very effective way to help nonprofit organizations in our region.  If you have questions about any of the projects described below, please contact the nonprofit organization directly, or call the CACF office.  If you would like to submit an article to Giving Opportunities please contact Sofia Case, Donor Relations and Programs Assistant, at scase@cacfonline.org.

The Virginia Indian Heritage Program

Last Updated Jun 2010

Based in Charlottesville, and led by Director Karenne Wood (Monacan), the program is a historic collaboration among the eight recognized tribes, the Virginia Council on Indians, and the Virginia Indian Nations Summit on Higher Education.

The Virginia Indian Heritage Program's most notable projects have been a comprehensive revision of Virginia statewide Standards of Learning (Social Studies) to reflect indigenous perspectives; the addition of a Sacajawea memorial plaque to the Lewis & Clark Monument in downtown Charlottesville; the exhibit "Beyond Jamestown" recently on display in the Richmond State Capitol; summer institutes for K-12 teachers; and the creation of the Virginia Indian Heritage Trail guide booklet (100,000+ in circulation).

The program is currently at work on a comprehensive collection of Indian photographs, historical records, and family data to be housed on-line.
Support for this and many related efforts are needed to raise consciousness and visibility for the historical contributions and living traditions of Virginia's Indian peoples. For more information contact the CACF office at 434-296-1024.
