Youth Service Award

Last Updated Sep 2009

Since 1994 CACF has been encouraging the next generation of philanthropists through its Youth Service Award. Each year the Foundation presents its Citizenship Award to one senior from each local high school who has demonstrated active participation in community service, leadership, and academic excellence. The students are then invited to participate in the Youth Service Award Committee for the upcoming school year. The Committee selects an organization best serving the needs of youth in our community to receive a $10,000 award. Since its creation, the Youth Service Award Committee has awarded $150,000 to seventeen community organizations.

The 2009-2010 Committee will meet monthly from September to April to research local organizations, make site visits, evaluate the organizations, select the grant recipient and present the $10,000 check in a special ceremony.

Past recipients of the Youth Service Award grants include:
  • The Music Resource Center
  • UVA Teen Health Center
  • The Brittany Hope Bishop Fund
  • Blue Ridge English as a Second Language
