For five years a Red Hill Elementary outdoor performance space has been placed by teachers and parents at the top of a wish list, for the purpose of dramas, readings and assemblies. For the last two years, the Parent Teacher Organization and students have worked hard to accomplish this community and school facility and need some final financial help.
The stage is near completion, featuring and sheltering the historical front steps and the foundation walls of the original Red Hill High School. They were left intact to surround a courtyard serving as an entrance to the current cafeteria and auditorium. The original red brick walls of the historic school now serve as the perfect backdrop for a stage. It highlights the enduring role that Red Hill School plays as part of the educational history of Albemarle County. The cover is partially completed and still lacks detail and electrical work itemized below. The space is also open to community events in an area of the County where nothing else with its functionality exists.
Since the beginning, the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) has raised just more than $50,000. The PTA only need $3,500 more to complete the basics, and $4,000 in addition to that to put in electrical service, speakers and lighting system.
Estimation for the remaining work:
$ 1,300 - Provide, install, and paint a bead board ceiling
$ 800 - Modify the railings at the top of the steps to provide a safe and lockable gate
$ 1,100 - Provide portable stairs
$ 300 - Bronze historical recognition plague +-
$ 4,000 - Estimation for installation of electrical service, speakers and lights.
A gift will successfully complete the necessary parts of this project in the next month, in time for the June graduation. Of course, a gift of any size is greatly appreciated.
