THE PIEDMONT WORKFORCE NETWORK (PWN)

Last Updated Sep 2009

The Piedmont Workforce Network (PWN) has the central role of providing leadership and direction on local workforce issues.

PWN provide the oversight to the Virginia Workforce Centers in this region. Virginia Workforce Centers (2211 Hydraulic Road and other satellites) serve as the one-stop solution for job-seekers and employers. PWN brings together over 14 local, state and federal agencies and the services they provide. Services for the Job-Seeker include: Unemployment information, vocational resources, veterans services, job coaching, job boards and much more. Services for Employers include: applicant pool, interview rooms, procurement advice, Human Recourses counseling, and much more.

The Piedmont Workforce Network also serves as the conduit to the Workforce Investment Act. These Federal funds provide employment and training services to individuals who have been recently laid off or meet low-income requirements. The Act also has a program for at-risk youth ages 14-21. The Youth program offers resources to youth to help them stay in school; obtain a credential from a post-secondary institution and gain employment. This is done through tutoring and training programs, mentoring opportunities and work experiences.

Visit the center today to learn more about the services and the opportunities.
