John R. Redick's Biography

John R. Redick is President of the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. Mr. Redick was elected to the Foundation’s volunteer Governing Board in 1986, served as Chair from 1988-1992, was appointed Executive Director in 1998 and became the Foundation’s first President in 2002.

Mr. Redick received his undergraduate and doctorate in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia. He served for sixteen years as Research Director of the Stanley Foundation and Program Director of the W. Alton Jones Foundation where he directed projects and grantmaking programs in the international field in the U.S. and abroad. Subsequently Mr. Redick joined the UVa faculty (Associate Professor Continuing Education, Academic Lecturer, Department of Politics) and served as a member of the faculty Senate.

Mr. Redick is currently a consultant to the Prospect Hill Foundation of New York, a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Science and International Security of Washington DC, and the author of over 40 published articles and studies.

As President Mr. Redick is responsible for directing all Foundation programs and activities, and administering its staff. He serves as an ex officio member of the Foundation’s Governing Board to which he reports.
